Ooooo I felt that. The underlying damage that is there, but not often seen. That generational thinking, the negative bias picked up along the way. It’s time to get in there and excavate….slowly, purposefully, ready for the new and improved…gently, patiently along the way. ✨

Love the way you've put that.

Sometimes I feel like I’m going over similar ground. But if I really thought about it, I would see the progress. xx

Makes me think of the iceberg theory! (The first thing that came to mind when I saw the wallpaper was if I woke up in the middle of the night and walked out to see that, I'd probably have nightmares for months! 😂)

Ooh yes!

And most definitely. They are horrifying. But I still kind of want it... 😂

I love the analogy and have just revamped my website I am enjoying the rip it down and build it up.

Also I can identify with too many ideas piling up and getting mouldy! Time to let them loose.

Good luck with the renos.

Just what I needed to read in the context of walking into a new leadership role at work. Also - those gummy bears would scare the pants off of me in the middle of the night!

It’s AI-creepy, that wallpaper! 😳 And also somehow, probably the wave of the future 🤔

It’s like you are peering into my soul keels. Mess births beauty. ‘I realised this is just how destructive the process for a new beginning can be. Not always, but in some cases, new starts begin at the place of dismantling. We sometimes need to tear up old foundations (or perhaps old thinking?) in order to create anew and build on sound structures.’ Yes yes yes to this! And also your so right, allowing our ideas to flow through us, is far more refreshing and creates new life, rather than holding on so tightly that is becomes stale and mouldy. A lesson I learnt in 23. So good! X

They're growing on me now though... 🤣 As if they wouldn't be cute in the hallway! That pigeon just watching you walk past, the orange one watching you from behind the tree like he's about to jump out at you. I'll restrain myself but I still think it would be hilarious.

I echo your thoughts, although I have been telling myself for several weeks that our renos have been getting in the way of what I really want to do. But now I have accepted that I wanted to do the renos but they just took longer than I thought after 2 bouts of COVID between us in the middle of our project. Rest assured, there is a finish. We have just begun to put our old furniture into our newly painted rooms and onto our newly laid floors. It is a good feeling, and an opportunity to let go more STUFF.

Well, I think Kevin McCloud would have warned us all it will always take longer than we think. So glad you're seeing it come together now! Did you keep the red kitchen? Love that.

We still have the red stove, but the red wall where the family photos were is now a lightish grey. The old wall was very faded around the pictures.

No gummy bears.

I've been wondering if the structure I need to tear down is my own story about who I am. I've always prided myself on being honest with myself, but am I? Or is that just one of my stories?

I’m with everyone else on the wallpaper, I think it’s defo nightmare territory 🤩 we had a leak under our shower for years that we didn’t know about until mushrooms started growing from the skirting boards 😱 not only did the entire shower room have to get ripped out, had to take up the floor in the adjoining room and replace some of the joists because they were completely rotten. The chaos was hard to handle, but I now have a lovely studio/office to work from and I adore it 😊 and the analogy fits so nearly! Couldn’t agree more xx

Yikes mushrooms hard pass. 😱 😱 Chaos gave way to creativity in the end though!! xx

I love the water as creativity energy. I came up with a little saying a few years ago that helps me act on things:

"Ideas have a shelf life, use them before they expire."

It makes me think of your Ideas Folder that can get moldy if they don't get moved around properly.

I hope the rest of the reno goes amazingly well!

Brilliant stuff. And YES to the gummy bear wallpaper…it’s the bemused looking pigeon that does it for me. 😁

Ok, I admit, the Giant Gummy Bear wallpaper was a joke...until it wasn't. The more everyone hates it the more I kinda want it.

Feels this so much Keeley - it’s kind of why I started my substack. I wanted a place to put my writing and that would motivate me to take action on all those ideas bouncing around in my head.

It's still your house you're talking about XD

Check out the wallpapers at Spoonflower, you'll find something you love that's not just a joke :D (I genuinely mean that, not just because I sell some designs there too).

Such an inspiring post Keeley, I love the way that you are able to reframe things to always find a positive. My word for last year was Action, to push myself from a state of dreaming to doing and it really was a great reminder.
